Does anyone have any pictures of what a family of 3 thats an e5 might get? I saw what they have online but i was wondering like the area and the inside. Thanks

Angela --- 40 days ago -

They all look very different. We have the not renovated 3 bedroom 1.5 bath two story duplex, but not the split level. Ours has perfect hardwood floors that were just redone before we moved in, but some have carpet. We have metal cabinets in the kitchen, but some have wood.
I don't know of any site that show the interior. All I can say is that I'm thankful they don't have the dark wood trim around the baseboards, windows, and cieling. I hate that look, and it's popular off post around here!

I was reading online about some of the renevations replacing the metal cabinets....is your house going to renevated?

Angela --- 40 days ago -

Eventually it will be, but they don't renovate while you live in it. They do it after you move. I live on a street that kind of sits off by itself, and people are moving out all the time, but no one is moving in. I know there is a wait list, but there are atleast 15 vacant houses on my street, so I'm assuming maybe my neighborhood is next.

From what I understand, my whole neighborhood was supposed to be torn down, but the company before Balfour Beatty ran out of funds? I don't know, the old housing isn't horrible, it's just not as nice as the new, or renovated houses. My only complaint is that the kitchen and dining room are one room. I like to have those seperate. And I hate two story because I have a toddler lol

COri --- 40 days ago -

you get what availible when you PCS to FLW unless you want to wait

Angela --- 40 days ago -

Yep, cori... they showed us one house, and one house only.
Our neighbor got here about 3 years ago and got to choose from I think 4 or 5 houses. Oh well.. it's not like you're buying the house, and it's not like you have to pay for repairs.

The 3 bdrm house they showed us was tiny. It was a single story house with all hardwood floors (which I did like). the kitchen was an ok size and it did have a seperate laundry room. The 3 bdrms were too small for us since we have 3 kids so we opted to wait on a 4 bdrm. good luck if you try to find a decent rental off post. The housing office gave us a list of rentals in the area and nothing was available. The only thing we found for a 6 month lease was a 2 bdrm apt for $850/month. the houses rent for like $1200/month. In my opinion...it is better to live on post even if you have a un-renovated house. we ended up driving 30 minutes to the town of Lebanon to find a rental. It is a really nice townhouse (3bdm, 2 bath, garage) for $695/month. we chose it because of the size and the fact that we are able to do a 6 month lease while we wait for our 4 bdrm. At first, I was upset that we couldn't be seen on post for our medical unless we were living on-post but the ST John's clinic is great so we may continue to be see off post once we finally get our house.

sweetcheeksgirl --- 40 days ago -

oh and they only showed us one house as well.

Jules --- 40 days ago -

We were shown a few. But, they didn't have any 4 bedrooms availible and we didn't want to wait 4-5 months for so picked a 3 bedroom in Piney Hills. I like the neighborhood and my backyard is on acres of woods. I haven't had a neighbor since I think September or October. Their is no ryhme or reson to how they give out houses for the most part. I have a neighbor up the street that has both sides of the house and she is a single Mom with only 2 kids. makes no sense.

We were offered base housing when we PCS'd here. My husband is an E-4 (We're USMC too) and we have a baby on the way. What we were offered was, well to be honest, I thought it was horrible. Someone actually told me the ones we were offered were about the be torn down? But I don't know how much truth is in that statement. Although, I'm sure it didn't help that we're E-4.
So, we decided to live off base. We didn't want an apartment anymore and rent for houses was too high in Wville/St Rob so we went to Lebanon. We found a home for sale 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, huge yard and built in 2007 for under 100,000. Our mortgage payments are less than $650 a month and that includes taxes and insurance. Plus, the $8,000 tax credit has been extended for military families and the 3 year residency law doesn't apply to us either. Also, it's typical around here for sellers to pay closing costs so it didn't even cost us anything upfront. The first money we shelled out after signing the paperwork was our first mortgage payment. It couldn't have worked out better for us.

I don't know how much space you need or what you're looking to do, but it's an option to consider. There are 3 homes for sale in our subdivision, all much like mine or newer.
Hope you are getting some answers :)
