MyCAA is back with a few slight changes...

Angela --- 44 days ago -

Wow... look at the rank requirements of the spouses.. Thanks, MyCAA!

Thank god my husband makes sooooooooooo much money as an E6. NOT! Haha!

Seriousely, it's great that its up and running again, but sucks that some people who could really use it, can't. I hate sliding scale requirements and what not.

This thing ssooooo frustrates me! Even though we qualify rank wise, I don't qualify because I am on a Bachelor's Degree Program instead of a certificate or Associate Degree. How fair is that?

Jessica --- 43 days ago -

I know, I feel blessed that I used it earlier as I would not qualify now for many reasons. But as you said I am glad it's there for those who can use it!

Hillary --- 43 days ago -

Very true, I am glad it is there for those who can use it. I just get frustrated that they won't help me because I chose to get a Bachelor's instead. Although, I guess I am feeling lucky that I got to use it for one semester.

Hillary, I asked Jessica and she said that if you already had an approved plan, as in if you were already using it when they changed the rules, you can still use up the rest of what you still have.

Jessica --- 43 days ago -

*Update* According to Kim Tombs (a MyCaa counselor) there are still some things getting ironed out and one of the items up in the air now is whether or not those previously accepted will be restricted upon the use of their remaining funds. I asked her advice on those with remaining monies and she said 1) contact your MyCaa career counselor and 2) if possible use these funds now, even if you pay ahead for courses. She said you can do the latter by going in and approving your course vouchers. Once there is a voucher alotted no matter what the changes say soon the money is already approved for your usage and they cannot touch it.

Just wanted to keep you guys updated on what's happening!

Thanks Jessica -
My MCAA counselor basically said the same thing, try to use it up as much as I can before Oct 23. You can't apply for the money until 90 days before the start date of the class so I'm hoping to apply first thing in August for my Oct-Dec classes (I do 8 weeks classes instead of 16) and praying they let it go through.

Although, I also spoke with a FAFSA representative today and she said they changed the laws somewhat and military families no longer have to claim any BAH income (as long as they live off base) and so I should qualify for some help there at least :) I have paid for every single class in my Bachelor's degree and I only have two left and I'm determined to not pay for them, haha!

Thanks Hillary for the update on FAFSA I hadn't known that, how cool lol!

I hear you, and let's face it all of this info. can be seriously daunting! I used the $6k towards my bachelor's too and it paid for an entire year of school so that was awesome!

I hope that they continue to keep military spouses in mind and develop more programs to suit everyones needs. It is certainly an important area and one that clearly many are interested in!
